Imperial Bloomsbury: A New Chapter

— 12 Oct 2026, 16:43 by Wayne Dooley

Imperial London hotels v2

We’re delighted to see The Imperial Bloomsbury featured in Wallpaper, The Times and Vogue, recognising the hotel’s transformation and distinctive character in the historic heart of Bloomsbury.

Originally designed by Charles Fitzroy Doll and opened in 1905, the building presented an exciting opportunity to give a London landmark a new lease of life. However, due to structural issues, economic inefficiencies and the Post-war tourism boom, the hotel was rebuilt in the 1960s.
Our approach centred on the retention, restoration and thoughtful reinvention of the Brutalist-modernist structure designed by Charles Lovett Gill & Partners, the priority to preserve its striking concrete façade and architectural heritage while introducing a contemporary identity suited to modern hospitality.

Inspired by Bloomsbury’s rich cultural history, the design brings together heritage and contemporary character, from the renewed public spaces and 357 bedrooms to the rooftop bar. Working alongside Trevillion Interiors and Keane Brands, the project demonstrates how considered design can respect a building’s past while creating a new experience for its future.

We’re proud to see the transformation recognised across these leading publications, with Vogue also featuring the hotel in “The Best Hotels in London, Tried and Tested by Vogue” — highlighting the enduring value of adapting historic buildings for a new generation.

The hotel’s transformation is also showcased in a video presented by Jane, shared by @theimperialbloomsbury on Instagram, offering a further glimpse into the character and design of this landmark destination.
