Jane Lock-Smith Bsc(Hons) BArchDist RIBA FFB MCIARB
Managing Director

Jane Lock-Smith can boast an extremely broad range of experience. Since establishing the practice in 2002, Jane has been instrumental to the successful delivery of numerous projects. A significant number of which have won architectural awards; a reflection of Jane and cube_design’s continued commitment to professionalism, excellent design & a passion for creating stimulating environments for learning.

Jane believes that meaningful client involvement is fundamental to the success of projects. Her dedication to producing excellent architecture is recognised by her role within the BSF programme, as a member of the CABE Design Review Panel, and as a RIBA Client Design Advisor.

Jerónimo Roldán BArch March ARB
Senior Architect

Jerónimo joined cube_design in October 2018, following a desire to live and work in the UK to develop his knowledge of the English language and architectural working in an English practice.

Jerónimo graduated from the Universidad Europea de Madrid in 2015; and has worked in Spanish practices: Rg Arquitectos, where he worked on a winning competition scheme for the Museum Carmen Thyssen in Malaga; and TL Arquitectos, where he collaborated on different projects including the Vircell laboratories in Granada.

Since joining the practice, Jerónimo has worked on projects within the education, leisure and residential sectors; and is developing a strong interest in detailed design.

Senior Architect

Wayne Dooley BA(Hons)
Senior Graphic Visualiser

Wayne joined cube_design in June 2013, having graduated from Birmingham City University in 2010. He is a skilled architectural visualiser; proficient in a range of 3D software including Cinema 4D, 3D Studio Max, Sketchup Pro and Twinmotion. Wayne is formally qualified in technical illustration and graphic design.

Wayne specialises in the production of cube_design’s 3D visualisations from the initial concept massing studies and stylised visuals to full photo-realistic montages for all of the practice’s projects.

Wayne has recently developed his visualisation skills using the latest Real-Time rendering technology and honed his skills in Lightroom for enhanced photographic content.

Valerios Lavrentiadis BA (Hons) Arch., MA Sustainable Cities Dist, ARB
Architect

Valerios has a keen interest in architecture and urban design. He completed his BA in architecture and obtained a Masters (with distinction) in Sustainable Cities at University of Portsmouth. He has strong understanding of software, which enables him to pick up and advance his knowledge of digital and CAD software, while continuing to practise and maintain his hand sketching.

Valerios recently qualified through an apprenticeship whilst in placement at cube_design. Since joining in 2018, he has worked on many projects within the education and mixed-use sectors. His understanding of urban paradigms and problem-solving skills has made him a valuable member of cube_design, both on architectural and urban masterplan projects.

Sam Hold BA(Hons), MArch, ARB
Architect

Sam completed his Part 1 studies at the Arts University of Bournemouth and his Part 2 at the University of West England in Bristol, before completing his Part 3 at the same institution after 7 years in architectural practice, becoming a registered Architect in 2025.

Sam joined cube_design in August 2025 as an Architect, bringing experience across diverse building typologies including theme parks, student accommodation and heritage projects, with particular experience in residential architecture.

During his time at university, Sam was part of a mentorship program teaching secondary school children about architecture and urban design, which led to the successful completion of a cycle cafe designed by some of the students.

Sam is a keen traveller, running, cycling enthusiast, and is regularly out for walks with his dog Linguine.

Tom Irwin
Architect

After studying at the Edinburgh College of Art where he was nominated for the prestigious RIBA and RIAS Silver Awards, Tom qualified as a Chartered Architect in 2009. 
Prior to joining Cube, Tom worked for CZWG and Studio PDP on several high-profile projects including student housing in Central London and asset release schemes for a major London Hospital.Tom has a keen interest in spatial design and solving complex project briefs. He has taught a design studio at the University of Nottingham and was a founding professional mentor for the LSA. 

Originally from London, Tom now spends as much time as possible outdoors with his family walking, cycling, paddling or swimming around the south coast.

Shane McNally BA (hons) MArchD
Architectural Assistant

Before joining Cube, Shane developed a broad and unique background in architectural design beyond his formal architecture qualifications. Having acquired his BA (hons) at Canterbury School of Architecture and his MArchD at Oxford Brookes University through the Architect Degree Apprenticeship, his interest in transitional thresholds in the public realm lead him to complete a two year MSc in landscape design and urban regeneration at The University of Edinburgh followed by a year and a half in the architectural lighting industry where he had the privilege to work on the world’s largest chandelier at the RIBA awarded 100 Liverpool Street and the historic Westminster Abbey.

In professional architectural practice, Shane has acquired a good knowledge of small to medium scale residential development from RIBA stages 0-7 with his applied research for his Architect Degree Apprenticeship looking at contemporary proposals to and around listed buildings and conservation areas.

At Cube he is excited to develop his understanding of commercial buildings and large scale developments.

Outside of Architecture Shane enjoys Martial Arts and wilderness hikes.

Dondre Brown BA (Hons)
Architectural Assistant

Dondre has recently completed his Masters in Architecture Part 2 qualification at Arts University Bournemouth. His final project involved the study of light and architecture and the impact it has on our our well being, including the harnessing of natural surroundings.

Outside of his studies Dondre likes to watch football and is a keen Liverpool supporter. He also likes to stay active and regularly goes to the gym. When hes not there he will be happily found playing on his gaming machine

Michael Uden-Halls BA (Hons) MA (Part 2 ARB/RIBA)
Architectural Assistant

Mike has successfully completed his Part 1 and Part 2 architectural studies at the Arts University Bournemouth. Recently, he finished his master's course, during which his research thesis focused on retrofitting existing housing to cater to the needs of dementia.
His past experiences include working for a local practice and collaborating with the National Trust to survey their historic buildings. Additionally, he led his own design company while pursuing his university studies. When not at his desk, you can find him on a climbing wall!

Ellie Trotman BA(Hons)
Architectural Assistant

Ellie joins us for her Part 1 placement, following qualification from the Arts University Bournemouth. Throughout her three years of study, Ellie has completed projects of a range of scales and concepts, particularly those within the urban realm. These projects have taken focus on improving a sense of community through the architecture itself, whilst simultaneously aiming to promote a more sustainable future for both the end user and the wider community. These concepts have been explored through materiality, integration of green spaces, as well as an acknowledgment to the longevity of the building. 

Prior to her architectural studies, Ellie trained full-time at the Royal Ballet School in London. During this time, she trained and performed professionally in classical ballet.

Bird Root BSc(Hons)
Architectural Assistant

Bird completed his Part 1 RIBA Architecture (BSc) at UWE  and shortly after graduating worked in practice on a range of residential and commercial projects within the local area, as well as projects in Scotland. He has interests in science and design, and architecture fell into that place. In his spare time he enjoy's skateboarding, photography, art and graphic design, which I share online. 

Thorunn Sigurbjornsdottir BA(Hons)
Architectural Assistant

Thorunn joins us after recently finishing her RIBA Part 1 qualification at the Arts University Bournemouth. During the past three years Thorunn has worked on variety of projects, all different in scale. As part of her final year, Thorunn’s studies focussed on restoration and preservation within architecture, with the intent of extending, reusing and repairing what already exists. 

Before starting her studies, Thorunn lived in Iceland; there she finished a college degree in preparatory studies in design and innovation. The degree allowed her to chase her dream and study architecture. 

Jack Lovell BA (Hons) MA (Part 2 ARB/RIBA)
Architectural Assistant

Jack joins us having recently completed his Part 2 Master in Architecture qualification at the Arts University Bournemouth. His thesis project focuses on the protection and repurposing of heritage assets within town centres.
Previously, Jack has worked with cube_design during his Part 1 placement in 2021-2022 and summer 2023, enjoying the variety of commercial and education projects undertaken within the practice.  
Jack lives just a stone’s throw from our Hillbourne Primary School project and in his spare time enjoys travelling the UK to visit National Trust and English Heritage sites, as well as keeping active as part of his 7-a-side football team.

Ben Lovell BA (Hons)
Architectural Assistant

Ben graduated with his BA(Hons) in Architecture at the University of Kent in 2023. During his time at Kent, Ben has developed projects in residential, commercial and industrial settings across the historic city of Canterbury and the county of Kent. Conscious of the importance of sustainability and community for the future, he explores these elements in his designs through functionality, materiality and phenomena.  Ben’s final project, ‘Chatham Shedagogy’, was acredited with the University Design Forum Student Prize 2023 for its innovative philosophy of harmonising craftwork and social interaction.

Outside of architecture, Ben has a strong interest in Formula 1, taking part in online league racing in his spare time, and couldn’t wait to contribute towards our projects at the Silverstone Circuit. A keen sportsman, Ben also played football at the University of Kent as a goalkeeper, and continues to enjoy being active when away from the office.

Ben first joined Cube_design Ltd. for the summer of 2022 as an Architectural Assistant,, where he gained valuable experience towards his final year of University through working across multiple projects and softwares.   

For his work placement in 2023-24, Ben has returned to Cube_design Ltd. to gain further industry knowledge and experience whilst continuing his journey to becoming a fully qualified Architect.

Alicia Beams
Architectural Assistant

Alicia has recently completed her Part 1 at the University of Liverpool. She looked at production and industry use in her projects, and how these uses can remain part of our urban environment. During her university studies, Alicia was involved in many activities such as korfball, dance and a member of the architecture netball team. 
In her spare time she enjoys ballet, sketching and playing the piano.

Gemma Martin
Practice Manager

After graduating from University in 2005, Gemma spent a couple of years working within the HR department for one of the leading banks, before joining cube_design in February 2009. Gemma joined as an administration assistant and document controller for major construction projects within the practice.

Since then, her role within the company has developed; and she works closely with Jane and the architectural team to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day running of projects and the business. Gemma has developed a sound knowledge of working protocols and procedures within the practice, with a focus on the marketing and accounts.

Gemma is a key point of contact for new and junior members of the team.
