Sovereign Harbour

The Boardwalk

project name | The Boardwalk
location | Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne
client | Redrow Homes
project value | £45 million
contract | Novated, Design and Build
project brief | The Boardwalk development is located on a promontory between an inner and outer harbour. The scheme is split into six new residential blocks, varying in height from six to eight storeys and provides 260 units in total. The buildings give the appearance of elegant ‘ocean liners’ floating on the surrounding water, looking out to sea and the inner harbour. Central to this concept is a pedestrian steel and timber boardwalk running through the centre of the site, providing access to the buildings at ground floor level above a 518 space car park.

The buildings are crisp white forms, stepping up in height from east to west, with the roof-top penthouse units forming a structure like a ship’s bridge, creating the focal elements of each block. The combination of white, blue and yellow render suggests a nautical feel and the image of sailing boats. The cedar boarding brings a more natural and historic nautical feel to the development.
