We recently asked the students at St Mary Redcliffe school to give us their thoughts on their new look school. We have had comments like WOW ! Amazing ! and Fantastic ! One student even went as far as writing a Poem about the new school.

The Poem:

Remember, remember the 5th of November
Our first day at Redcliffe’s new school

The crates are unpacked,
Classroom shelves are all stacked
Congratulations to all who have helped

The IT Team are tired
Every computers been wired
Let’s hope there’s no ‘virus’ today

The Street is the place where students all meet
With new tables and chairs it’s a great place to eat

The street leads on through with lockers all new
In colours of yellow, red, green & blue
New keyboards for music a studio too
For popstars recording an album or two

Art and photography on the top floor
But Shhh be quiet the heads office is next door.

Now will there be Oooh’s or will it be Booo’s
At the thought of sharing The unisex loo’s

The PE staff will get the last laugh
The gym’s 3 times bigger than the last
They have cricket nets, football, basket ball too
Tennis and netball to name but a few

May God bless you and keep you and watch over you all
As you start your new journey in this your New School

"Love the space and light - love the open feel - love the views - love the shape of the classrooms - love the sofas - love the street (courtyard, I prefer!). Such a relief from the pokey, noisey and crowded Cartwright"
- Ben Eve, English Department

Rachael Phillips said:
"I can't believe it was December 12, 2001 when I sneaked into the parents meeting to find out what this school would be about. We have come so far to get to this point today. It is down to a lot of hard work from everybody. It is a really beautiful place and it is really working for us. The most important people are the ones sitting in front of me, the children, I want them to think that they can do anything they want to do."

The innovative new school has enjoyed one of the best Ofsted reports in the borough and headmistress Rachael Phillips was praised for her enthusiasm and creative learning by the chair of governors.

Marshgate School Speaking at the opening ceremony headteacher Liz Jackson said:
"Our vision was for a community school in a beautifully designed building where we would inspire children to become inspirational adults."

Liz Jackson added:
"The new building is fantastic with all the facilities needed for teaching and learning in the 21st century. Marshgate is a place where each child can be inspired and be inspiring."

Dave Alexander, Head Teacher, Rednock School:
"I think everybody has finally realised this is going to become a reality, there is just a feeling of impatience to get in there. It is such a magnificent building, it is so good to walk through the doors and see what we are getting.” It is with mixed emotions that I watch the old building being demolished, it is quite sad really to see it go, but we need to look at what our students are going to get in the future, an absolutely fantastic new school."

"“Jane Lock-Smith has been excellent from the inception of the school in liaising with all of the stakeholders. She worked tirelessly to engage all of the stakeholders and to encourage them to contribute to the design of the building. Her vision for the build has been powerfully rendered into reality, with the 'wow' factor clearly prominent. The reaction to the building itself is one of awe; people are genuinely impressed with the new school. Jane's attention to detail is exemplary and it shows in the build itself.”"
